Local

Emmaus Road
Reaching out with the good news by providing real Christian community, a meal and engagement with God’s Word. Emmaus Road communities meet in various locations, engaging with local communities and uni students.

Life transformation groups (LTGs)
People in groups of two or three engaging with one another with honesty, God’s Word and prayer.

RedFrog Crew
Serving uni students and building relationships in partnership with the RedFrog Crew:

• through campus ministry—hanging out with free doughnuts and Allen’s red frogs at college coffee nights, O Week and other events.
• at Schoolies Week—serving schoolies, helping them be safe, and running BBQs, pancake breakfasts and free bus transport.

Student meals
Serving international uni students through a free meals program at St John’s Southgate from 6–8 p.m. on Tuesday nights. Student meals volunteers assist students with English conversation and help with meal set up and clean up.

If you'd like to become involved, contact us (see top of page) or just turn up at St John's at 6 p.m. on a Tuesday.

A proportion of the free-will offering collected at Sunday Night at St John's is allocated to support mission work in developing countries.

Short-term mission trips
In 2008 a team from the LSF Victoria community travelled to Sabah, Malaysia on a short-term mission trip. They met with and encouraged churches and other local people.

Mission partnerships
We are seeking an ongoing mission partnership with either an overseas developing community or an Indigenous Australian community. This will involve prayer, financial and personal support, and regular visits.

What is mission?

Mission simply means sending. God sends Jesus with good news for the world; Jesus sends his followers with good news for the world. Mission is participating in the self-giving love of God to the world. God starts it and keeps it going; we simply get on board with what God is doing.

Jesus says in the book of John:

“Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” (John 20:21; NIV)

As followers of Jesus, mission is part of our lives. How we are involved in mission might be:

• as simple as serving people around us without looking for a reward, just because we can
• as big as going overseas to help spread God’s good news
• anything in between.

God invites us to join him in giving his love away to the world. Anything we do which does that is mission.
